Maghen David Synagogue: Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis Visit
Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, on a tour with Ralphy Jhirad, President and Managing Trustee of Bene Israel Heritage Museum and Genealogical Research Center, came to Calcutta along with his wife and two sons and conducted a Shacharit Service in the Maghen David Synagogue at 7:45 am on Thursday 31st September. Several community members attended and with the folks from London and Bombay too, there was a minyan. The prayer ended with a blessing for the congregation and community members presented him with a plaque to document his visit. It will be placed in the synagogue as a memorial of this special occasion. After the service there was a breakfast served in the courtyard of the Maghen David. The Rabbi then visited the two other synagogues and the Jewish Girls School.
Before coming to Kolkata he visited and conducted a service in Delhi. The Kolkata visit was followed by his trip to Mumbai.
